Cancer research is one of the fundamental research areas of the Medical University Vienna. In terms of interdisciplinarity I am exceptionally pleased about the foundation of the initiative “RedPaw – cancer research for pets” in cooperation with the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna. Our inspiring example is the American “National Cancer Institute”, which launched a "Comparative Oncology Trials Consortium (COTC)". The transfer of knowledge accompanying this initiative against cancer uncloses new approaches in the treatment and alleviation of a disease that has become the major burden of our society.
